Our Impact

Impact can be a qualification, a job or a completed placement. It can also be the first online form completed alone, the confidence to speak in a group, or the clarity to attempt a task that once felt out of reach.

A national digital inclusion programme

Inclusive employment

Between 2017 and 2022, First Rung personnel coordinated and delivered Digital Skills for Citizens training across Ireland. More than 18,000 people took part, including older adults, farming communities, small business owners, jobseekers, disabled people and groups experiencing disadvantage.

The scale mattered. The delivery approach mattered too: clear materials, patient facilitation and practical tasks people could use after the session.

Digital capability in healthcare

Digital skills programme

FRLS developed the Supporting Digital Capability in Healthcare Delivery programme for healthcare professionals. It focuses on the digital skills required to work confidently in changing care environments.

A first step towards independent travel

In the Emergency Reception and Orientation Centre in Ballaghaderreen, FRLS delivered driver theory preparation in Arabic for refugee women. The programme connected language access, confidence and practical knowledge with a clear personal goal: taking the first step towards a driving licence.

Fairer routes into vocational learning and work

FRLS works where training meets the realities of a workshop, placement or workplace. We make task sequences, success criteria and feedback clearer so that a learner can demonstrate genuine skill without being disadvantaged by hidden expectations or unnecessary overload.
