What We Do

First Rung began with a simple belief: people progress when learning respects their starting point, removes confusion and connects to something that matters in real life.

First Rung Life Skills is a not-for-profit education and training provider based in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim. We work across Ireland and through European partnerships, bringing practical training, mentoring and progression support to people and communities.

The people behind FRLS bring more than 15 years of experience in disability activation, inclusive vocational education, adult learning, digital skills, community development and employment progression. This experience shapes a delivery style that is structured, flexible and deeply human.

Our Purpose

We help people build the skills, confidence and connections they need to take part in education, employment, community life and everyday decisions.

Community and belonging

Our Vision

Communities where every person can learn, contribute and move forward with dignity and confidence.

Learning should feel clear, useful and connected to life

A course can look good on paper and still leave someone unsure of what to do next. First Rung starts with the person, the setting and the real task. We make expectations visible, break learning into manageable steps and create space to practice, ask questions and build confidence.

That approach runs through everything we do: digital skills, work readiness, personal development, mentoring, vocational learning and employer linked programmes.

What we help with
